🙋‍♀️ Hi, my name is Charlotte Fraza a second year PhD student in Computational Neuroscience at the Donders institute in the Netherlands. With this Channel I hope to teach the world about Computational Neuroscience and give current and prospective students the tools to enter this field. I hope you enjoy the videos ❤️.

Great work Charlotte! Thanks for answering more questions!! Before watching your channel I knew that I wanted to study in a field that dealt with the brain (psychologicaly and biologically), work in mathematics and physics as well as use the tools of computer technology.

Then I saw Computational Neuroscience from your channel and have been hooked ever since! Great work!!!

Thanks for carving out this little space for talking about comp neuro and the topics/ study around it. I did a bachelor in psych a few years ago and loved the neuroscience aspects a lot and did my fourth year project on syntax recognition via ERPs which was fun, but didn't take it much beyond that. I started making moves towards data science this year but found your channel in the process and much appreciate what you've shared about computational neuroscience. It feels like coming home with new eyes, and i'm definately not going to be stopping at data science now.

Thanks, and congrats for 30k!

Thanks for answering these questions! You asked about Notion V Obsidian so I will keep my reply brief but can talk about it for hours 😆

Main differences:
- *Local not cloud* - This means it is faster, offline on all devices, and is safer as we have control of the files.
- *Backlinks instead of relations* - Yes Notion has backlinks but the display is poor so relations are probably more used. Backlinks in Obsidian are quicker, easier, re-namable for context and have easier viewing, filtering and searching functions.
- *Markdown* - They both are very similar but Obsidian acts more like a word processor making writing more fluent for me.
- *Hotkeys* - Obsidian can be customized with each action to any hotkey which Notion just can't do. This speeds up so much!
- *Integrations* - Notion is just not good, Obsidian community plugins allow for so much. eg I have a hotkey that links my zotero paper to an obsidian note (bi-directional due to a zotero plugin I use)
- *Graph view* - Notion doesn't have a graph view. I use the local graph in Obsidian to see related notes (concepts) and what stage I am at with them with the grouping feature.
- *Multiple windows* - Notion you have to make multiple browser windows. Obsidian you can have an unlimited amount of pages open, and different windows open. Use case, my paper in 2 positions (methods, conclusion) for working and 5 other notes open for reference all open on my screens so no jumping back and fourth.

I could go on and on but I will leave it there for now 😉I would be happy to talk further.

For me, the main reason why I use obsidian is because you own your data. If you build a second brain, you collect more and more notes and the value of this information increases. Imagine notion goes down or something after years of collecting notes... Or that the internet goes down... Or you store sensible info...With obsidian I am responsible of the storage of my own information and that kind of makes sense to me. This way, I know i'm never gonna lose it.
Also, the graph view! It helps you find information in a different, organic way. I use it when I want to spend time in obssidian randomly searching for possible connections.
Another reasons are flexibility and personalization. Obsidian really, truly rules!!!☺

Congrats Charlotte! As someone who is interested in computational neuroscience, your channel is fascinating! I was wondering, since I lack experience in the field, what resources would you recommend to someone who is also pursuing a Masters in Data Science but wants to also get into comp neuro?

I am fascinated by the fact that your background is in theoretical physics but what you're doing is Bayesian statistical methods in neuroscience. I like both bayesian statistics and mathematical physics but find the two views somewhat incompatible. It's almost like the idealism/materialism dichotomy in philosophy! What's your take on the philosophical underpinnings of Bayesian statistics as a theoretical physics-trained Bayesian statistician/neuroscientist?

PS: I don't work directly with neuroscience but somehow these videos are oddly relaxing and I use them as study/research breaks :)

Congratulations on 30k subscribers! I switched from Notion to Obsidian. The big difference is graph view, which you can visually see the connection between notes. This function is incredible! I highly recommend you to consider switching!

we love your videos more specifacilly i love your way of talking, do some videos about neuroscience, or when u learn something maybe u like to share, try to make a video about it, about this science, so we we can like learn new things abt our brain

Hey there What is the practical sleep period for the person who has lot on the plate according to you btw
Your videos are awesome ☺️ to watch to learn about new info

Hi Charlotte.. Amazing content as always!... Would it be possible for you to make a small video on Neuromorphic Computing, from the Computational Neurosicne Perspective?

Hi Charlotte, I wanted to know whats the difference between Systems Neuroscience and Computational Neuroscience? and what are the Pre requirements and approached mainly used that differentiates the two.

Thanks! awesome channel btw!

Thanks!!! I think this may be my new favorite channel on Youtube.

By the way, could you give some advice to a medicine student about getting in computational neuroscience? I once read a paper in which a person with ELA could communicate with others using signals from evoked potentials processed with machine learning techniques and that really got me.

Do you know people in this field that have a similar profile? I mean, with no mathematics, programming or physics background (I'd love to study them, but I'm a little scared about not having enough time to study them by myself).

Hi Charlotte! I was wondering if you are aware of the predictive coding model of the brain and if you have any strong opinions about it. Thanks. Your videos are very helpful.

Hello Charlotte, and thank you for making such amazing content and interacting with your subscribers! I have a question related to Donders. I have done my Bachelor's in Psychology and Master's in Brain Imaging and Cognitive Neuroscience in the UK (Uni of Birmingham) and now I am aiming to secure a PhD position at Donders. Are there any tips for the application, finding a supervisor, admission and competition for positions in Donders? Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Hi I'm looking to apply to comp neuro PhD programs in the next few years. Could you share your CV for when you applied, and or what grad programs look for in applicants applying to comp neuro programs. Also could you talk a little bit about differences in doing comp neuro phd vs neural engineering. Thank you :)

Hi Charlotte and many thanks for your great advice. Would you mind please name best sources from your point of view in mathematics in every particular field like statistics, linear algebra, dynamical systems and every other field of math.

And another question is about feature extraction algorithms sources. Please let me know if you learned them in a specific lessen or by reading papers?
