Quarantine Project Day 58, Sonnet 145:

Those lips that Love’s own hand did make
Breath’d forth the sound that said “I hate,”
To me that languish’d for her sake:
But when she saw my woeful state,
Straight in her heart did mercy come,
Chiding that tongue that ever sweet
Was used in giving gentle doom;
And taught it thus anew to greet;
“I hate” she alter’d with an end,
That follow’d it as gentle day
Doth follow night, who, like a fiend,
From heaven to hell is flown away;
“I hate” from hate away she threw,
And sav’d my life, saying “not you.”

I absolutely love this! You read his sonnets like the wind reads the secrets of the earth. I wish I had been following this series at the time. Sonnet 145 is also my favorite sonnet. Even though it’s not the best from a technical perspective, there’s something so human about it that I can relate to very deeply. I know you primarily approach things from an actor’s perspective, but I would love to see more videos on the sonnets. You could even try to compare and contrast them with the plays.

I really appreciate your effort in having researched, explained and given a personal interpretation of the sonnets.
The personal interpretation, whether accurate or not, gave the sonnets a more nuanced depth which I really enjoyed.

But for you, for I'm not a native English speaker, I wouldn't have had the patience to finish them but here we are..

All the best.
I hope you are safe
