That happens when you trade down in the draft, they take the guy they were going to get. But it worked out for the better, as he and Dupont would not have been a good pairing, as an OFD pairs best with a TWD or DFD. EA whiffed hard on the contract negotiation system

8:10 a scouts region grade increases every year they are in that area. So an A- AHL scout can go anywhere you want them. Even if they are an E in the region. They will eventually grow to an A after a year or two

Hey Stick, I've been having a blast doing a franchise mode challenge that I think could be a good video idea for you.

I do an expansion draft team, then spin a wheel with the alphabet on it, and whatever letter I get, I can only roster people whose last name starts with that letter for the rest of the franchise mode on both the NHL and AHL roster. In the expansion draft, you have to take people who meet the last name requirement, and if the team you're taking from doesn't have any unprotected players with a last name that you can roster, then you just take the one that you think would get you the most trade value, and then trade them away during the entry draft. You can only draft prospects that meet the last name requirement as well.

Obv it makes trading more difficult because your options are a lot slimmer, and scouting is a huge dice roll that there will be good prospects with the last names that you need, but it's really so much fun to try to develop players that you're stuck with and make a cup contenting team out of them! You end up developing players that you wouldn't typically stick with for long in a normal franchise mode, so it's cool seeing some of these shitters get to some pretty high overalls.

I'm currently 3 seasons deep with a "P" last name franchise, and it's the most fun/challenging run I've ever had playing this game.
