So glad I found this, well done shaan. I'm on the road recovery now, I become agoraphobic when I had a massive panic attack outside last year, then I started getting them regularly until it left me housebound. Then my anxiety disorder kicked in. In a better place now although lockdown set me back, but I'm taking the train tomorrow to the coast with the kids and wife. So its gonna be a challenge

I’m not super agoraphobic anymore. But traveling far or getting on a plane seem near impossible currently. I’ll keep pushing!

Your intro made me tear up so much. I used to travel a lot, been across the Atlantic 4 times and now I have a hard time just going to the grocery store. Recovery starts now 🥺😢

Yea, I honestly don't even remember who I was three years ago. At one point I was traveling, care free, enjoying life, id perform in front of thousands of people and I'd be fine to now just being home and not even able to stay at my friends house longer than 10 mins without getting a terrible anxiety attack. My old friends think I'm lying to not work I somehow did make new friends (long story) but they don't actually know the real me and its annoying. I hope I get back to my normal self soon!

Wow Shaan... I just read your entire pdf about overcoming agorophobia. It's crazy how you manage to squeeze an answer to every single feeling, every question and every worry that I've had into your report. I will try to use your AWARE technique! I'm glad I found you so early into my Agoraphobia!

I ❤ your vid Thank you. I myself have been paralysed by anxiety for many years then it eventually evolved into agoraphobia. I'm here because I'm about to relocate, yes move my whole life to a place I have never, ever been to...not even for a brief visit. Sounds crazy? Yes it's crazy but I had to jump or I would miss this rare opportunity that God gave me for a different and possably better life for my family and myself.
This train journey will take me around 15 hrs. I've been avoiding thinking about it and thought I'd ' JUMP' again and deal with the consequences as I go but I realised that is not a good idea. I do need to prepare myself both physically, mentally and spiritually. In the last couple of years I have learned some self soothing techniques, some I learned from studying ' people on the spectrum'. Most people on the spectrum have an ability to self-sooth....they rock themselves back and forth, twist their body in pretzel like positions, pile loads of pillows on top of themselves or squeeze soft toys with different textures. I have adopted a few of these awsome self soothing techniques. Rocking gently really helps me calm down but i probably wont be doing public...then again i might 😆. I will carry a pillow and blanket...the blanket i can wrap tightly around me to simulate a hug which releases hormones in the body that calm. I can squeeze my pillow till my hands hurt...this will distract my attention from my mind to my hands which helps ease me out of a panic attack. I find there is a huge connection between how we feel physically and how we react mentally.
I carry camomile tea bags with me, all i need to do is ask for hot water on the train...you can carry a thermos if you like...camomile tea made with 2 bags not just one...really calms frazzled nerves and can in most cases stop a panic attack in its tracks.
I never drink alcohol if i know Im going to be having a stressful day the next day or 2. Alcohol relaxes you at the time but the next day or 2 you are even more vulnerable to anxiety. So NEVER drink alcohol at least 3 days prior to travel no matter how tiny or big the trip.
Sleep and exercise are our bffs. Something as simple as walking in fresh air for 30 mins helps our nerveous system. Sleep is the queen and we need to revere her...she will soothe us like honey. There will be times we wont be able to sleep, dont fret, have little nanna naps to catch up.
Stay hydrated it helps especially if you are prone to low blood pressure like me. Hydration is important for all of us.
Prayer...give it to God..God's got this ..He loves us and he never forsakes us, his children...know daddy is always looking after you. I will also pray for all of us to get a break through in Jesus' sweet and mighty name. AMEN. ❤
Food...bananas are amazing..they are easy to eat, are full of potassium and easy to carry in a bag...tbey keep you full and help keep your blood sugar up...mind your blood sugar..small regular meals are best. Drink a fruit juice if you struggle to eat when stressed.
My main helper is distraction, distraction, distraction. Online games, puzzles, journaling, adult colouring books, watching utube vids, pinterest etc...texting all these kind of distractions disengage the mind from worrying about the body. Also travel with a plush buddy, yes a toy it can be your fave animal . Reason for this is, you will be respinsible for keeping this very terrified li guy calm for the whole trip...you will be talking to him (quietly afcourse)😆, comforting him, distracting him from his fear by teloing him he is okay and that he is safe. You can even tell him your favourite stories or funny experiences...it will help him and you aswell...its a great nurturing exercise that turns your fear away from you and also your focus onto helping someone more scared than you.
Love you all so much cos I know what you go through due to anxiety and agoraphobia. Im going to JUMP into the unknown but knowing Im not alone cos God is with us all. 💓💕💕💕💕💕

I'm in a similar position to a lot of people reading this, though I'm very grateful that I've gotten to a point where getting lifts in the car isn't really a problem, and when a car is near I can traverse around and go into shops and whatnot.

There's still a lot that I want to overcome, and sometimes it seems like things aren't progressing much or even going backwards, but I'm able to find a lot of comfort in what I have at the moment. So I'd like to encourage all those struggling that even if you feel totally constrained right now, know that this isn't the end and you're capable of surprising yourself. Find the small little things that you can do and feel grateful for them, and then keep pushing just a tiny little bit further everyday. Baby steps pay off

I like how you start off by saying anxiety makes people feel special like their problems were worse or special from everyone elses. And then continue by saying "My story is interesting" and then it's the same as everyone elses 😊.
Not trying to be a jerk just made me think. Thanks for helping people like us 👍

Hey Shaan,

I recently found you and your content makes a lot of sense. I truly believe that physical and emotional balance is the solution. I have not found what works, but I know what does not work. What activities did you include in your daily life to recover? I'm currently avoiding most people, TV/media or anything health-related that could make me anxious. Inevitably my world gets smaller and smaller. Lonely place to be indeed.

Blessings to you brother.
