Okay, very productive good looking machines.
But in 1990 at 13 years old, I drove an F2 gleaner harvesting dryland wheat in eastern New Mexico. Heaven!
What an exciting afternoon!
Went on to operate many 9600 John Deere’s and even own one, but nothing was like that first short experience on that Gleaner. It was small- my dad used to have an L2- but I didn’t care. I was running a combine!

We used to use 9500 JD's and I thought they were big back in the early 90's . I would have liked to operate that combine without a the computerized equipment they now have . I had to stop farming just before the all the computers were in the equipment . My former boss had a S 780 with a 40 draper header the last time I saw him but that was a couple of years ago so I'm not sure exactly what equipment he has now . Great video as always . Your harvesting crops and chopping silage are some of my favorites to see

Great interview with Matt. Thanks to you and to him.

Having grown up with JD 55 combines, I'm totally amazed with the size of the combines that are being produced now. Not to mention the precision of the GPS systems that let them cut off lands and end up with a perfect last row.

I find it interesting that draper headers have come back. They were used on the pull harvesters like the JD 36 and it's predecessors. But when JD introduced the 55 combine it used an auger too move the cut grain to the center of the header. With the headers so wide as they are now, does that thrash out too much grain in the header? Or maybe with such wide cuts you need to move more grain than an auger of reasonable size can do?
