I use a similar phrase frequently: real LOVE is not a feeling, it’s an action. I feed people, give them safe spaces to vent, advise, mentor, hug, etc.

I came across a comment that worded love pretty well. She said her grandpa told her this when she told him that she didn’t think her dad loved her. The saying was something like, “people love the most that they can even if their love doesn’t reach your level of love.” I think the saying implied, just because you love a specific way and the person doesn’t express their love the exact same way you do, doesn’t mean they don’t love you. They’re loving you the best way they can.

Telling someone their feelings are unreal or invalid is a firm of gaslighting and can be extremely detrimental to the person's mental health and self image.

It's especially important to avoid doing this to young children as they may grow into adulthood with the mindset that their feelings or the feelings of others are either non existent or irrelevant to the present.

Emotional awareness is an extremely important part of a functioning society, even if someone is incapable of feeling true empathy, emotional awareness can and should be taught.

I grew up with my cousin from toddlers into the elementary and we stopped seeing each other regularly besides family events. Which I was always running up to him. His family would talk about his friends but id never meet them and one day his sister said, " (my name) he's gay and he doesn't want u to know because he thinks you'll hate him".. That shit broke my heart, I kinda always knew because he would aleays pick the females in mortal combat and every time we would play around he would pretend to be women figures but that shit broke my heart. Idgaf if my cousin is gay or whatever, he's still family and he's still like a brother to me. When I confronted him about it he broke down and since then he's still my brother. My gay brother that I'll defend till my last breath... If you're in fear of coming out, trust me your family already knows. It's not that big of a deal. it just hurts us to think that you think we won't accept you for who you are but we know. Trust me, we know!!!

Love is loyalty. Love is compassion. Love is empathy. Love is the small things we do for each other, the easily forgotten kindnesses that you do out of habit. Love is so hard to define, and defined in so many different ways because it is felt differently, acted out differently by each person. I think that’s what he means when he says “feelings aren’t real” because we all feel differently from one another.

Facts. Feelings are a result from a specific stimuli. People chase” feelings”because they are fleeting. In reality you should be chasing the specific stimuli that made you feel such things

My grandfather was a hard man with a history that would make a great movie. He was a natural stoic, very quiet and direct. He had a hard life and was a legitimate genius. He had a hard time showing love, to say the least. Not in a way you "feel" in yhe moment. But when he died, everyone talked about how great he was because he did love greatly. He showed that by supporting and sharing with people, by being there and living up to his promises. But he was not a man that would ever smile, or hug you, or say specifically kind things. His teachers in school thought little of him. They pegged him for a ditch digger. He became an electrical engineer. Feelings are not reality.
