I have an original 77-DX that I use on outside kick because it does "the thing". This 44 totally does "the thing" and it's awesome.

Whether or not it sounds like the original, it still sounds great! Do your research people. Each individual U47 will sound slightly different but they're made with the same parts. GMC and Chevy have the same parts under the hood but Chevy is always more affordable. Colt you have helped me spend my money wisely

I just picked up the soyuz 017 tube, and let me tell you how much awe has been produced in me about this mic. I think, a review on the soyuz 017 line would definitely be on the game changer as well as value proposition side.

Also something I have always been interested in from you has been your LDC collection. I know it would probably be pretty complicated but you got some heavy hitting mics that a lot of people debate between picking up. I was always stuck between the u87, manley, and eden until i got a smoking deal on the soyuz that put it in that same price range. Anyways I feels like there's not a whole lot of information on these high end mics for consumers to deliberate on (understanding that it's pretty hard to make these vocal mic videos and that people who invest a lot of money into pro mics would probably have an idea on what they would like already). Maybe you could grab a male and a female artist and you could go through your mic selection and explain why you felt the choice was right for them and the track? Maybe comparing mics for genre and frequency response? Just an idea, i understand that would be an almost life consuming project but I think a lot of people would like some theory when it comes to high end mics especially when throwing that kind of money in the air and wanting to make sure it was an educated decision. and also especially how little information there is when it comes to comparison. It takes a lot of reading between the lines on the internet (which has always been a fun hobby for me anyways).

Dude! I love Lester drumming! I was a big pillar fan back in the day! Good to see that he is still in the game!

Thanks for the video! I wish there was a video showing different microphones for different voices and why choosing one over another. Because all microphones sound great with a great female singer and seams to be the go to for most examples on YouTube.

Great video. With all this hate on the Warm Audio stuff I just wanted to say that I have their LA 2A compressor, Ptech clone, 412 and a few of their mics.

I've never had a problem with quality control with any
Of their gear. And all
My WARM gear has been living in my studio for over two to 6 years. I haven't had to replace anything.

I do have the original 87 clone, which does not excite me but other than that I have found all the products to be fantastic and to be built very well. Like I said nothing is broken down in my studio yet and I'm working engineer who puts miles on his gear.

I’m gonna add this ribbon to my collection. Right now I have the Telefunken TF-17, Neumann TLM107, and an AKG 414 XLS.

Colt, the mic sounds great and I'm a huge WA fan but getting to see you do a quick mix on the drum sub mix was the most helpful segment. Do you have any longer versions of a more thorough drum mix or would that be something you'd consider making in the future?

That is such a nice mic, I can hear it sounding great with rap of all things, someone should do it

Side note: As a drummer, I always prefer drummer's perspective panning...EXCEPT for when the audio is attached to a visual of the drummer's performance. It's like audio vertigo when video and audio don't line up directionally.
P.S. Lester was one of my favorite drummers when I was younger. I must've seen Pillar live at least a dozen times!

I don’t know, I don’t have a positive impression of the Warm Audio stuff. Their Neve clones don’t come close to the original and are still pretty expensive for a clone. Why would I pay 670 for a 1073 clone while I can get the Neve for 300 bucks more?

It was last week I was traveling and thinking about your review of the warm audio cx-12, n I say I would buy that microphone because I remember how spot on in your review to the original it was, and now this one ❤❤❤
