Because i'm getting a shocking number of comments about this, I'm going to address it at one time so I can stop doing it individually. On Rands Harem:
1. Just because something is representation, does not mean it's above all criticism. It also doesn't automatically make it *good* representation.
2. Rand is not in a polyamorous relationship, he is in a polygamous relationship. Polyamory would mean the women were also romantically involved.
3. Maybe some of you are new here, but I am KNOWN For hating like...every single romance lmao. Yes, STRAIGHT romances. The implication in some of these comments that I hate all gay relationships because I have criticized Rand's is both wild and untrue.

Finished ASOIAF and it amazes me hearing experts on YouTube refer to "Tyrion 4" and remembering what happened there

You know your books are good when the worst thing about them is that the chapters aren't numbered.

The lack of chapter numbers in ASOIAF bothers me too. So much that I made my own index. However, you could argue that a table of contents contains spoilers. Imagine reading Clash for the first time, being really sad about Bran and seeing that the last chapter in the book is his POV. Haha. But they could have a table of contents at the end with a spoiler warning? Maybe.

My ASoIaF pet peeve is Martin's constant use of "curtain wall" to refer to the wall encircling a city, castle, or keep. That may be an appropriate use of the word, but I am a structural engineer (and often work with architects). In today's usage, a curtain wall is something completely different: a non-load-bearing exterior wall, one that doesn't bear any of the building's weight, but which serves the architectural purpose of sealing off the interior of the building.

to be fair if the asoiaf had a table of contents it would spoil characters who live through the books. like it would have been suspicious to see Caitlyn chapters ending in the middle of a storm of sword

Bookborn, you are a legend. Always perks me up when I see a new video with a tongue-in-cheek title and thumbnail from your channel haha

If I could remove everything Sanderson personally finds funny from his books, I would.

Do you think that maybe Winds of Winter is fully written but it got knocked over and is all mixed up and George is now cursing his past self for not using chapters?

Sanderson's humour has never worked for me tbh

If I read physical books I would for sure also be editing the numbers in myself

A table of contents is a must in all books with chapters for me. It's unfathomable that ASOIAF doesn't have them. Like HOW

I do agree about the imaginary girlfriend plotline, especially considering how much time gets spent on it. I think there a few moments throughout the series where Liu is trying to tap into the culture of lonely young men in China (another example being a character buying a star for a woman that barely knows him), and I have heard these aspects make a bit more sense with the cultural context, but they definitely came off as creepy/weird to me as well. However, I do think it played a purpose in that it made me doubt and distrust Luo Ji a ton throughout the story. I feel like it helped to get across the idea that every other wallfacer is a serious and experienced politician, while Luo Ji is essentially an overgrown teenage boy that got handed limitless power.

As a Game of Thrones fan since the beginning of the show, and I just finished the first book finally - this channel is a must watch for me now :) also the Nike bomber jacket is dope

Steven Erikson taking a page or 3 at the start of a chapter before revealing which character the reader is with.

Just to add to pet peeves about Wheel of Times: beside braid tugging and skirt pleading there is also a constant comparison of Aes Sedai to birds. They constantly look at other people like different birds: hawks, owls, eagles, robins, you name it. They may be indicating hawkishness, inquisitive attitude, attention - whatever. An Aes Sedai would be compared to a bird.

On WoT:
The romance IS a weak point, but I don't mind the harem any more than I mind the physical description.
The latter just happens as I'm reading and I honestly don't notice it (I read fast anyway, and descriptive scenes are useful for my imagination. To me, there's very little experiential difference between living a moment myself, and constructing that moment through what I read. I know real from imagined, but the *experience* is very similar to me)
The former... I'm no a prude or traditionalist. I find the idea of loving more than one person very easy. Not simply different kinds of love, but also romance. This is not through any personal experience (my love life, to quote Friends, is DOA) but just my nature. I love. A lot. And I have the same acceptance of the gender flip :P (one of my guilty pleasures is Laurel K Hamilton. Her two series are BOTH male harems for a female protagonist... AND I'm fairly sure she makes 50 shades seem very tame)

I think people make FAR too much of a big deal about the personal taste/morality angles of literature.
It's okay not to like it (be it potty humour or harems or anything else) but I find a lot of people can't just say "not for me" and have to say "it's bad" :P (obviously, there's a big difference beteen a rant about how bad things are in order to convey your personal opinion and the real condemnation I see from many. For WoT that is typically about characters taking disagreeable actions and that meaning Jordan was somehow promoting those choices. "female characters don't get on! That must mean Jordan thinks women can't get on!")

Spoilers for Wheel of

I would remove Faile from Wheel of Time. Perrin is one of my favorite characters but they are horrible for each other. I hate how their relationship normalizes domestic abuse.

I can’t sand sandersons romantic relationships. They feel like middle school relationships.

Yeah I totally concur with the Sanderson and Jordan takes. For being "adult" novels, the poop jokes throw me off. Also the harem in WoT was totally superfluous, honestly I think Robert was just being progressive for the sake of it at that point. It served no purpose. Also congrats on hitting 50k subs.
