Amiga 1200 DF0 Switcher | Amiga mod made by a complete amateur

Earlier this year I purchased a Gotek floppy drive emulator for use with my Amiga 1200. I got a bit frustrated with not being able to use it as the Amiga's internal drive though (without replacing the drive, which I didn't want to do), as it meant I couldn't load many games.

I couldn't find any solutions on the net, so I made my own - a DF0: Switcher (DF0 being the Amiga's name for the primary floppy disk drive) that I believe will work with any of the main models of Amiga.

I've made this video about how I put it all together, but as I'm a rank amateur when it comes to electronics and soldering I'm really proud of this. Hey, maybe you could try it too?

Funnily enough as I was putting the finishing touches to this video I mentioned the mod on the Amiga Facebook group and found many other people have done this same mod. Guess I'm unknowingly following in experienced footsteps.

Enjoy the video anyway!

Very nice and congrats! "Must not damage the Amiga" is also my restraint for a gotek. I currently have 3 different Amigas with working floppies and all without Gotek. Will consider this mod, thanks for sharing!

Great video, really clear and I like the honesty of the complete novice approach, gives me confidence to give this a try myself. Any deas why the DF0 selectors commonly around on ebay don't work on the 600 or 1200?

I tried to make such a modification, unfortunately it didn't work for me. While looking for solutions on the Internet, I found your movie. Just like you, I made the switch on pin 10. Unfortunately, gotek doesn't boot. To be sure that the ribbon is properly made I swapped the drives. The floppy drive always boots (of course in the appropriate switch position), gotek never (returns to the kickstart start image). When only gotek is connected - it boots as needed. Differences to your configuration: Amiga 500 (kickstart 1.3), fdd is a modified ALPS (DS0 jumper closed inside). Do you have any idea why my setup isn't working? Thank you in advance.

Great Video, where did you purchase your soldering lamp/magnifyer from? thanks!

Honest question. Would pressing both mouse buttons while turning it on and selecting DF1 as boot device not achieve the same result?

I'm wanting to do this to my 1200 & Gotek, you made it look easy (dunno if I can do it). Have you thought of making these cables up. I surely would buy one if you did

great work, so is it just a case of switching wire 10 from one drive to the other ?
