Film Composers on the LSO

The LSO is sad to hear of the death of its friend and long-time collaborator, the film composer James Horner, yesterday. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family at this sad time.

The LSO recorded 16 soundtracks with James over more than 20 years. In this interview, recorded back in 2009, he says some very nice things about working with us and the relationship we shared with him.

I have not personally been to see the LSO, but I love film music, and have heard many pieces that you have done. Brilliant doesn't even begin to describe it, but that is all I have! Thank you for all that you do!

You boys obviously have never heard of the National Philharmonic Orchestra, now sadly disbanded, which was universally regarded as the finest freelance orchestra of its type in the world. This band was and still is - for those who know - the best at playing film music. Their sight reading was second to none. Their playing top notch. Composers like Gerry Goldsmith, Hank Mancini, James Levine, etc are quoted as saying this band was the Best, I should know because I played in both!!

Enjoyed watching this video. Although i never hired the LSO for a recording, I did license their recording of James Horner's score for "Krull". A superb effort on their part, given that Horner was hardly the best conductor of his own music.

Love James Horner and miss his active composing dearly. But I have never understood why he adopted an affected British accent.
