However, if you look in the ms, they used the previous variance which i dont understand why they did that.

Solution for part b is actually wrong. Part b asks confidence interval for "mean" of X. X is actually a "sample" as stated in part a, so we have to use the variance which we found in part a using bessels correction. So X~N(4.96, 0.523) and Xbar~N(4.96, 0.523/7)
