Dangers of Space Junk

What are the risks associated with space junk? In this video, we explore low Earth orbit, where there are thousands of objects, many of which are no longer functional. The danger posed by these objects is that of a “Kessler Cascade.” This is a process in which one satellite would break up and crash into another satellite, which would then break up, causing a wave of collisions. The shrapnel from these collisions would fill low Earth orbit, making it unusable for the satellites which help our society function. But scientists are experimenting with ways to prevent a Kessler Cascade, including lasers, bags, and harpoons!

Space junk would very specifically be on my list because it is quite literally my life's work. You forgot to mention that we would also no longer be able to travel to space if there's too much debris!

One of the sequels to Jumper talks about a company that has as an integral part of their service that for each pound of “space stuff” they send into orbit they bring back (I think it was) 10 pounds of space junk. Of course this is a lot easier when you are able to teleport yourself.

We had something go through our roof and hit the credenza. Knocked the LPs all over the floor. Ruined one of the Julius LaRosa ones.

Gravity-generated sweeper. It doesn't exist in this time line yet.

Have you seen Wim Wenders Until The End Of The World?
It’s related…and a great movie.

So, could we call an escape from a Kessler cascade a Kessel run? (Think Han Solo).

Love that we only care about pollution when it affects our internet

Even stuff that burns up in the atmosphere leaves matter down there with not completely scientifically discovered effects (even on climate change). Seems that humanity is not able to learn.

Well this would be in like 70 years it might be a problem because the earth is massive even if we had 10 billon it would not be that bad cuz earth is like 1 million miles so it would be like 100 per mile which would not be that bad
