So I'm gonna tell y'all a little story

I was 9 and in 4th grade when my grandmother died of a seizure it was a really tuff time for me because the three people I felt like I could tell things were completely unavailable. My best friend moved to another town a few weeks before, my mother had turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism, and my father had shut the whole world out as a coping mechanism. I was alone and sad and that's when a girl in my grade came up to me and asked ”why are you crying?” and I said ”you wouldn't understand.” and attempted to walk away but she followed me and became determined to find out what was wrong. I eventually gave up and told her and she said one sentence that changed my life forever ”Well I'm sure your grandmother loved you think about how she feels up in heaven, having to sit there and watch you cry your not a very pretty cryer” it made me not only smile but laugh I hadn't done either since I'd lost my grandmother. I'd thought life was ending and if stopped knowing how to be happy but for a split second, I was. That girl has been my best friend for 6 years now. My parents are also both doing better now they're both in therapy and my mother has stopped drinking. Life has it's ruff spots but it gets better.

My little brother sent me the link to this music video because he said it reminded him of what I did for him when we were younger. He has always had a hard life due to a mental disability and parents as well as teachers and so-called friends that harassed him and refused to understand. The biggest thing they didn't seem to understand was that, regardless of his mental disability, he's human first. He was always hurting and wanting to do drastic things that would end his life. I was always there to make sure he had a reason to keep going, to make sure he understood that there WAS someone who saw him as more than just a mental disability. Even now, little brother, if it ever gets hard again, I will always be your lighthouse. I love you so much!!
EDIT: Oh wow! So much love from you guys. Thank you for this! I commented this 4 years ago and this song just happened to reappear in my YouTube personalized mix. I just wanted to say that those of you who commented how there's no one there for you right now, I'll tell you what I often told my brother: no one is born into this world to be alone. It took my brother seven years after high school to find people that cared about him outside of me (only two years ago) and were willing to stick around. Don't give up too soon, because you just might miss out on something spectacular. ❤ I won't say that I HOPE you find that someone, because I KNOW you will! Stay safe out there in the meantime. I have so many scars. Mental, and emotional. I'm slowly healing, and I've learned to try not to hide my wounds under Band-Aids. I still hate some people, but, I'm slowly forgiving.
