Raced for 23 years on a MS Precision steering wheel without FFB with a controller attached to it for extra buttons (total price fl140...in 1999). Had lots of fun with friends in LAN-parties. Now own a TM T300 RS GT with the F1 addon to be nore competitive.

As someone who uses a tmx, he is very right, I love playing ETS2 and ATS with my wheel, even though it's apparently a "budget" wheel.

The biggest problem for me, is living in Brazil. Wheels here usually costs almost double of what they cost in Europe or USA

Big thing is buy used. A LOT of consumer models go long between refreshes but don’t cut prices. This sort of hardware lasts pretty well too

I've had so many hobbies and I find it funny every time I hear someone say "this is the most expensive hobby" there's always something more expensive trust me, unless you're into yachts 😂.

Starting with a budget wheel is totally fine, but be careful, it can lead to expensive upgrades in the future.

I play on my G29 steering wheel since September 2015, I play Forza Horizon 5 and Euro Truck Simulator 2 on it without any issues. It's not even expensive. For more than 8 years I spent around 300€ in G29 (steering wheel set including shifter, new springs into the pedals to be able to work better with gas and other pedals). It has enough buttons, easy to set up, high quality, ... Very good for that price.

A G29 is perfectly good if you just want to unwind after a rough day but if you want to be competitive and/or find relaxation in competition, something like the Fanatec CSL DD bundle is good if you're on a budget

I have a g29 with a logitech shifter got it for $350 and in my opinion, its more than enough to get started as long as you have a stable desk. If you dont, you can always try adding support to the structure of your desk, or spend another $100 to $150 on a stand

My first wheel was a Microsoft Sidewinder that had no FFB and only 270° Rotation. Then years later I was compelled to buy a Logitech Driving Force GT.

Then 1 G29 later I have the CSL DD with a BMW GT2 rim. Best upgrade ever.

i went from a g923 to a Logitech pro with the direct drive, and i got like 1000% increased in enjoyment. i was getting bored of racing games prior to that, now im just addicted. direct wheel just bring a whole new level of immersion

I've had a fair amount of fun with just a G29 wheel+pedals and a shifter. All I really need is a wheel stand and I'm golden. If my G29 ever fails on me, I'll upgrade. Right now though, it's perfectly fine and suits my needs. Which is what everyone should look for in a sim setup. What suits THEIR needs and what THEY feel confortable with. Not what others deem they NEED to have.

My set up was $400 for the wheel 300 for cockpit and about $200 for tv. So not too bad when you consider there are wheel that go for $2000+
