Tennis star Novak Djokovic has been deported from Australia after a federal court upheld his visa's cancellation over his vaccination status. He had been initially scheduled to play in the Australian Open, which kicks off Monday. However, Australian officials require everyone coming into the country to be vaccinated against COVID-19, and Djokovic remains unvaccinated. CBSN's Lana Zak sits down with CBS News foreign correspondent Imtiaz Tyab to discuss Sunday's court ruling and widespread reactions to the controversy.

When people are in chains and they see someone free, they don’t think ‘Hey, I want to be free too’. They think ‘Hey, why isn’t he in chains too’.
This is today’s mentality. Sad that people can’t see that this is way bigger than any event…

Banned for 3 years. Good job. Shows how unwilling the tennis players are to say he should have gotten the jab because they themselves play for money and not for the sport.

Novak Djokovic knew about covid and Australia's laws. He lied repeatedly and possibly infected many people. He should be held responsible for his actions. It was his own fault, he should be ashamed, not pitied.

This is a classic case of privilege, and the rules don't apply to certain people in this world. He thumbed his nose at the rule of law in a sovereign country.

He must not allowed to play if he is not vaccinated. Well done Australia 🇦🇺

Very important lesson for the #1 player in the World. Being rich does not mean that you own the World, it just means that you are rich. I wish other billionaires would learn this fact...

Novak did this to himself…. I don’t feel sorry for him at all…. He knew the protocols, rules in place, now a 150th world ranked Salvatore Caruso is now sitting in Novak’s place at #1, seriously, was this really worth it?!

Kudos to Australia for standing your ground and not treating him any differently. He was too in your face😂🤣

I applaud Australia for simply reminding Djokovic that he must abide with their restrictions or he can not play there. He needed a wake-up call in that his arrogance and narcissistic self ain't gonna fly in Australia -- BOTTOM LINE BABE is that you AIN'T WORTH infecting other people just so that you can play tennis.

Djokovic did not qualify for entry to Australia and he falsified his documents (blamed his team for the "mistake"). The fact is most tennis fans agree with the deportation. Australians have to abide by the rules so does Djokovich.

The Court decision to deport him was based on assumption that Djokovic`s presence could spread an “antivax” sentiment in Australia. In other words, he is thread to the fight against Covid. So, someone who had donated more than 2 mil. eur to fight Covid, in at least 3 countries (Serbia, Italy, Spain) is perceived as the greatest enemy of the fight against disease. And public figures, journalists and commentators in all the world's forums are racing to insult him more.

Everyone needs to learn that We are equal in front of the law. Djokovic is not right to use your fame to break the law. other then that. If you participate and win is for your own benefit.. the money will be for you, I will support you if you put the money for people Victims of Covid.

Sounds like the real issue is whether money or being truthful is more important. Australia has its rules so he had a choice to make, get vaccinated and play, or don't and don't play. Being famous sometimes makes people forget that they aren't gods and need to respect the laws of the country that they are guests in, just like its citizens.
