Great video thanks.
I just got the three litre. Off to sunny Scotland in the coming days so will use it while parked up by a river.

Katadyn is recommending not to put the filter directly under your tap or it can damage the filter inside. It also can filter up to 1000L depending on water quality. I personally love this filter, I fill the soft shell bag and filter it to my hard bottle and the katadyn goes back in my pocket

Hi, you should have make a comparaison between plugged filter and hix your solution can fix it. All what you described is already given by the supplier.

When you clean the bag, can you use it like a normal bottle? (Like drink straight out of the bag with no filter)

I’ve always heard not to clean a filter with tap water. Especially if you have hard water. The minerals will dry up and actually clog the filter. Any comment on this?

wait I don’t understand, so when the filter “expires” do you have to change teh filter? Like buy a new one? Or do you have to just shake it in the water until it’s clean?

Or do you have to shake the filter after use to clean it from dirt, and then when it expires, you have to buy a new none?

I loved it out of the box. However, on my thru hike of the Long Trail at my first water source it clogged. I tried everything and finally the bag got a huge blister from me squeezing so hard trying to get water to pass through. I replaced it at Day 4 with a Sawyer Squeeze. I have bought another one, but have not tried it yet. Happy Hiking

Just little advice! Most tap water have minerals... Katadyn and minerals don't mix well.... Try using Demineralized water (sold at the store in bottles) and rince like you did in it.... It will be 10 times better!!! I've been doing this for years, never had an issue... Just saying :) Take care

Thanks for the video, super helpful. As far as knowing the filter is still working, is it safe to say this: If water is flowing freely out of the bag and through the filter nozzle it is filtering effectively?

What if you have left it in a cupboard for 2 years? Is it safe to use after cleaning?

Thanks for this great video and comment section. I've just purchased my first BeFree filter and bottle/bladder and am pre-cleaning it at home. I've looked at the website and a few privately made videos, and I can't find anything on whether I can clean the drinking-pouring nozzle with dish soap. I don't intend on sending soapy water through the filter, but since I do plan to drink directly from the filter bottle I'd like to clean the nozzle. Can you offer any guidance on this? How do you clean the nozzle?

Does the soap residue ever stay in the bladder. I cleaned a platypus water bladder with soap one time and I could never get the soap taste out. I tried EVERYTHING and could never get rid of the soap flavor. Really hesitant to put soap in my beFree but its getting dirty.

Thank you for your help in my post-hike BeFree treatment.

I recently pulled out my BeFree filter (hadn't used it for a couple of years) and found it nearly impossible to move any water thru it. Since I'm backpacking soon I bought another filter figuring the older one was toast. Before I threw the old one I tried it one more time and Lo and behold I found it was now working fine?!?! Is this typical for the BeFree filter?

So the bleach part has nothing to do with going through the filter?

In the manual it says do not put under running water, probably time for a update to this video, you can make people sick with the bad advice.
