There's a lot of rich people who drive cheap cars, but there are a lot more poor people who drive expensive ones.

I bought an ‘07 Corolla for 3k, 155k miles. Been driving it 3 years with ZERO issues. Most reliable car I’ve ever driven.

About a month ago I purchased a 2010 Toyota Corolla with 72k miles driven by a grandma for $6k and thought this was an amazing deal for my area. I absolutely love the car already! Thanks Scotty, learning so much from you!

I'm completely disgusted by the things that people do and say to rip off customers, it's very refreshing to know that there are people like you left in this world 🌎

My $4000, Toyota Corolla, stopped working in less than 6 months, had to just give it to the junker, used car buying is always a gamble.

Your years as a mechanic has matched the speed limit on a lot of U.S. highways. I hope it goes on to exceed the Autobahn's!

Is Scotty suggesting that we bump off grandma to get her Buick?

With all do respect Scotty, Tahoes are not horrible SUV’s. My 09 Z71 had 207, 000 on it until some jerk t-boned me totaling it. Didn’t burn oil, tranny shift good, only thing that had to be done was a heater hose. I’ve seen 2007-14 models with 300, 000+ miles on it. The newer ones are garbage, so I agree with you there, but the old ones, not so much.

Love my 2 toyotas. They have been in rotation for years, and now my 2 older kids drive them. You can abuse them for sure, but with light maintenance they live forever.

For the guy with the timing belt, GET IT REPLACED. It's probably expensive to replace the belt, but it's more expensive to replace the valves and I coulidn't see that job costing more than $1000 based on today's rates. Now the next question might be if it's worth it, and if the car runs decent, then yes. If not, then maybe not. I remember my 97 Civic was about $500 for a timing belt and water pump job, but this was back in 2005 before the recession in 2008 when things started to go up in general.... it was about $150 in parts and $350 in labor (the ship I used at the time was charging $75 per hour labor I think).

He knows his stuff! My friend has a 2001 Camry. She keeps it up. It probably has way over 200k. Rides better than a Cadillac. My neighbor has a Corolla. Probably late early 90s. Drove it till about 7 years ago.Still has it. Keeps it covered with a tarp. I have a 2004 Hyundia. I've had it for 7 years. Has over 180k. No major problems. Still drive it.

Thanks Scotty, appreciate the good info on which used cars to buy and which ones to not buy. I’m actually a Portsmouth native and I know right where you’re located ( just off watching your test drives haha ) anyway is your shop in the same spot ? I’d like to bring in my crv next time I’m visiting my mother. Best to you
