Fuji cherry does very well with air layering. This year I did 15 air layerings on Fuji cherries and they were all rooted extremely quickly, after 30 days I had to cut them off due to the huge amount of roots. Who knows maybe I was just lucky this year. I wish you good luck, I would definitely love to see an update.

Like others I have found Fuji Cherry to be super easy to air layer. It’s such a very robust species for bonsai. I expect after the apocalypse cotoneaster and Fuji Cherry will still be thriving. And probably privet grrrr!

Ps. That’s a massive Fuji Cherry!!! 😂

Thanks for the update. You potentially have some interesting future material. Fingers crossed.

I found that my Fuji cherry shrub (about 3ft tall) air layered really easily and I ended up taking 4 or 5 branches from it before eventually developing what was left of the trunk. I notice you too suffer from the crisped leaves. This year I have kept mine out of the wind and direct sun and it has made a massive difference - they actally stayed green till I carried out some pruning last week.

Really nice neat airlayering technique Darren, thank you for that. I've never been brave enough to try, but I've got a new nursery grown Kojo No Mai that's I'm itching to get to work with :) xx

Nice one. The beauty of this game is even with mistakes we are still left with options. Great choice.

can I ask something? I bought it a few days ago, how many centimeters do the branches grow a year. I wanted to realize how much material I have for making grafts

Thanks for another instrucive video.
About the airlayering technique: you are reiterating what I have heard before, namely that is is important to have the upper bark ending in a “razor sharp edge” in order to get good root formation. My intuition and my knowledge of plant physiology tells me that this is wrong; the amount of roots forming should be irrespective of this. A straight edge would possibly create a more even nebari, but even that would be a negligible consideration in most cases as we are talking about millimetre size “errors” anyway.
Can anyone confirm or falsify this?

Having three hands would be nice sometimes :-)

Please don't do drastic impetuous things just because you can. It didnt need air layering! For goodness sake!! Less would have been more with this tree! You could have just gone down the nursery and bought 2 more trees!
