😀ABOUT- I'm Seth Perler and I want a world where education gives ALL kids, including outside-the-box learners, the tools to build a good future. Education should empower learners to not only have great lives, but also to contribute in personally meaningful ways. Let's do this right.

My mission is to help students who struggle with school, and it's all about "Executive Function".

Omg I feel like crying. I feel so understood. I’m twice gifted and 17, and I have a really severe learning disability. There’s been a lot of shame done by myself and to me by fellow peers and the school system in general
in regard to where I am academically, and it feels so wonderful to be acknowledged because I am one of those kids that fell through the cracks! And it was terrible! I’m just trying to pick myself up out of that. It’s not too late! I’m still trying! So thank you! Sometimes all kids like me need is just someone to say. hey yeah you’re not stupid, you have the potential to do something great!

My problem is I have ADHD with a 130+ IQ, but I have retaken basic college algebra 4 times. But because I’m “gifted”, no one believe that I need any help. It’s so frustrating.

Holy shit! This is pretty much the first I've ever heard about this. Where was this when I was growing up? This is so important! The shame and self-hatred that follows growing up with a very visible asymmetry in intelligence and academic achievement is real, damaging and debilatating.

LOVED this video. My son is a 2E learner - no one is listening to me though. As an educator and a gifted learner myself, I know what I'm looking at. I'm hoping by sharing this video with those that teach him, someone will take me seriously. Advocating for him has been tiring, and going on the 7th year of schooling like this. Thank you so much for this!

This great! Thank you. The thing I would add is 2e kids turn into 2e adults. Just because we aren't in school does not mean this is something we grow out of. I am 31 and now just seeing this :) I have had a ton of success in my life setting records etc. However, I have also been misdiagnosed in the medical community. Working on changing my diagnosis because this has led to other restrictions. Thanks for posting this.

I wish you could work with my son. He is so smart but almost never gets to show it. They gave him the adhd diagnosis, but the teacher dosent try to help him at all with his challanges. I got the chills when you talked about kids that can talk to adults on an adult level. The problem he has is he forgets things, dosent ever have time to finish things he does etc. and he is so funny, always understood sarcasm etc. What do I do, who do i turn to for help? The teacher he has doesent understand.
Im now watchin your videos all the time.

This is a great video. Helping me understand my son.

And understand myself.
I was the one who fell through the cracks.

I was classified as gifted as a kid and I excel in critical and creative thinking. I was recently diagnosed with ADHD and I’ve been struggling with terrible anxiety since I was little and I’ve also felt so alienated and confused about how my brain works in comparison to others. This makes me feel so seen!

this has made me feel so much better! i just turned 21 and was diagnosed with adhd. i was a “gifted” kid all through school, and always felt like i was the dumb one out of the batch. i worked so hard to be on the same level as my peers, and couldn’t understand why things were so hard for me. i hope other students can get the help i didn’t start getting until now when i’ve already gone through years of imposter syndrome and shame at being told that i was not trying hard enough.

Greetings fellow 2Eers,

Halfway through this and I felt like Seth was describing me as a child. I was/am a gifted student. Ended up being valedictorian and placed in AP classes, did well on SATs without studuying but rarely did homework and handed in projects late religiously. I would learn later on, by my biology teacher Mr Wasserberg in a PTA meeting, that this was due to ADD or ADHD. This led to me being left back despite being one of the smartest kids in my class by most metrics. An absolute outlier in multiple directions at different times. Now I know what the issue is/was and how to start fixing it.

Im just learning about this. My 9 year old has adhd and even though he scores off the charts in standardised tests especially reading maths language hes barely scraping through school due to his behaviour and motor skills. .. he struggles with social skills. He cant tie his laces yet, he only just learned to swim and ride a bike but he can code computer programs speak japanese etc. hes failing music at school but he writes songs at home. He asks non stop questions and hes so funny. My other kids are very bright too but never really thought it was giftedness or looked into it as they do well and behave. They are probably flying unde the radar too.

I wish someone had explained this properly & with this much patience to my mum when I was a kid. I faceplanted so hard with lack of support for my 2E. But! Finally going for my BS on my fourth try at 30- and a master’s after that!
So hang in there, upcoming 2E fam! Hang in there, other folks who didn’t know the support they needed was out there!

I really feel like I had an intervention watching this video and I really wish you were my teacher. I always had teachers that didn’t understand or care about why I didn’t get the work. I needed that attention from the teacher but I would shy away from it because I felt like the normal students didn’t need as much. I learn at a different rate some times much faster and some times much slower. Not a bad thing. Thanks for this video.

Wow! I found your video to be very informative. I’ve come to realize my 10 year old son is a 2e child. My son was listening unbeknownst to me and he said “OMG...that guy was describing me”.

I’m 2e. I have ADD, and an anxiety disorder. I can remember anything about a specific event in history that I have taken interest to, I can remember any lore about movies, books, and video games. Maybe this is just because I am the youngest child and all of the people at home are 18+, but I am much better at having meaningful conversations with adults than I am with kids my age. This video helped me A LOT, thank you

Thank you for all the positivity is this video :) I am currently struggling through college with executive dysfunction (and being generally bored) caused by my mild (recently-diagnosed) ADHD after years of being a great student without much trouble thanks to giftedness and I think I really needed to hear someone say positive things about my type of brain :)
(And, a great hypersensibility example: I cried watching this video, even by watching in 1.75x speed lmao)
