I HATE SCRUM! 🤯

"I hate Scrum!"

Who heard this in a professional setting? 🤚

Who heard this said directly to your face after you said that you are a Scrum Master? 🤚

I've been told that my job is useless. I've been told that once fit hits the shan, I will be the first to get fired. I've been told that Agile is dead, and Scrum will never work.

How do you deal with that?

1 🔹️ Ignore it. "You can't coach people who don't want to be coached"
2 🔹️ Remember all the successes you had thanks to Scrum.

I think about times when:

▪️ A team member told me that working in a Scrum Team was the best working experience he's ever had.
▪️ An executive publicly thanked me for keeping them accountable.
▪️ An ex-colleague said how they miss me in their new team where they don't have a Scrum Master.

Those stories is what really matters.

🔴 For those who hate Scrum:

Don't blame individual cases of toxic behavior or poor leadership on a whole profession.

At my company I am 100% convinced the scrum master is useless. He tries to maximize the number of meetings that we and himself attend. He even attends meetings that are completely useless for him, as they are only useful for us programmers. It's obvious he just wants to justify his existence through a disgusting amount of meetings.

Attack on the role doesn't equate to attack on any individual and the guy was 100% correct.

SM is a useless role. Change my mind!

It became okay to insult your entire "profession" when that "profession" was manufactured exclusively to bring the HR timewasting bullshit to the software field. Scrum helps nothing. It slows product development down. We have 8 hours in a day to work. I don't need three of them stolen by a meeting where we just rehash what we talked about last meeting and talk about what we're gonna talk about in the next meeting.

Pro tip guys, if you're interviewing for a development position and they mention Scrum in any way that isn't "We don't do that here.", it is a gigantic red flag which indicates that your employer will not allow you to get your work done. Every project you work on will go massively over schedule and massively over budget and in six months to a year, they're going to use it as an excuse to fire you. Scrum is the worst thing to happen to the development world EVER.

Scrum is very useful for resolving "complexe" problems. It turns out WE usually dont have complex problems but still we use scrum....because...it's agile or whatever stupid reason

I could give you 2 hours seminar on why scrum is bad but I will say just one thing. The fact that non tech person (Scrum master) is explaining us how to organize and do our work is by itself insulting. All people who are directly involved in development should have tech background. It is like me coming to hospital and organize their work. It sounds crazy...right? So is whole scrum BS

As a scrum master for 6 years I believe that if the team doesn't like scrum is just means the scrum master failed to do their job

I had good managers and bad ones.
I had good BAs and terrible ones.
I had good developers and ones that would do more harm then good.

I have not meet a single SM in my 8 years of career that I can honestly say contributed anything or helped even a bit.

None of my friends who worked in other companies.

Thanks for sharing, some people are just afraid of the change and don't get the whole picture so they start to insult or throw accusations, people afraid of what they don't understand.
