Colonial Hawai’i has been overthrown by American businessmen, just as an outbreak of leprosy engulfs the tropical paradise. The new government orders all Native Hawaiians suspected of having the foreign disease banished permanently to the island of Moloka'i, that becomes known as 'the island of the living grave'. When a local cowboy named Ko’olau and his young son Kalei contract the dreaded disease, they refuse to allow their family to be separated, sparking an armed clash with the brutal island authorities that will make him, and his wife Pi’ilani, heroes for the ages.

What's the name of those scientists who study rock formations and geology over time; of course, geologists.
The island of Molokai is distinct in that its northern edge is a sheer rock cliff face, as if some gigantic knife sliced the top portion of the island off.
That's sort of what happened maybe five million years ago, or even much less. Some earthquake of great magnitude spit an existing east-west fissure in northern Molokai. The top one-third of the island cracked and fell off into the sea, leaving a near vertical cliff across the entire northern side of the island. Molokai took on the appearance of a rectangle, an unnatural shape for Pacific islands.
Throughout pre-European Hawaiian history, Molokai played a minor role. The most politically important islands were Oahu, the big Island, Hawai'i, and Maui.
King Kamehameha defeated or co-opted the other four district kings of Hawai'i, unifying that island under his rule. With his increased manpower and resources he set out to unify the rest of the Hawaiian islands under his rule by force. Ferocious island invasions and battles of conquest took place. Maui was a very bloody affair. Molokai surrendered quickly, being a weak island. The biggest battles lay yet to come in the most politically and economically dominant island of Oahu, which had the largest population and was the locus of political and cultural power in the Hawaiian Islands. The powerful chiefs ruling the island were going to put up a massive allied front. Still, Kamehameha defeated them all and Oahu fell to the Hawaiians.
The last remaining island to conquer was Kauai, a large and most northern of the islands. The king of Kauai saw the writing on the wall and declared his vassal status to his new overlord, Kamehameha, thus sparing Kauai from a bloody invasion. Kamehameha had few options. A smallpox epidemic decimated his army. It would take too long to recover and the costs to invade Kauai too great as a result. Victory was Kamehameha and for the first time in its history, the seven islands of Hawaii became a unified state under one ruler.

If the white man would have lost, there would be now a lot less hotels on Hawii and cost of living a lot lower. As he didn't it is said that nativs now hardly are able to afford to live on their own land anymore.

I'm glad this wasn't made in the 1980s. It would have a cheesy catchphrase like: "Aloha, motherf*cker."

If the Europeans didn't go there, the Chinese or Japanese surely would have. It was going to happen. Humanity still doesn't have the Star Trek Prime Directive of "No interference". Probably never will. It will always be the Strongest or Cleverest will rule. Stop being Babies and be happy you're alive.

There was a short story by Jack London, about a leper that hid himself for years from the authorities, don't remember the title.
