I did a similar thing in oblivion. I made a self paralysis spell that lasted about 1 minute because falling while paralysed makes you fall slowly

There's actually another way that I figured out, but it requires the dawn guard dlc. So, if you go into master vampire mode, then transform back into your character right before you fall, for some reason it negates fall dmg. Use this if you want, I just thought it was pretty funny, albeit useful at times.
