CHEAP AS CHIPS CHINESE THEREMIN (AliExpress)

Taking a look at the Mixer Geek Theremin from China, available from Amazon, eBay and AliExpress (where it is cheapest). An interesting little addition to the studio. I forgot to mention the built in speaker but pretty much everything else is covered...

Great video. I checked this out a while back after the GAS fired up when Stylophone showed their Theremin at NAMM. I figure this is a better investment considering the price vs how much I'd probably use it

I just bought one of these for my father. He's going to lose sleep playing with it. He's a fantastic musician who loves technology and is a fair hand at sound editing to boot, I look forward to what he'll do with it.

Thank you for the video! I just got one today. It is a great instrument. I like the sound. Best regards from Chile.

Thanks for this video. I've ordered one, for less than £30!

As for MIDI, I expect that if a simple audio wave output from the theremin is fed into a pitch-to-MIDI converter, that might work. I built a theremin years ago but it was so unstable it was practically unusable.

I just got mine. I couldn’t wait to set it up. So much fun with this tiny device and so economical. I totally recommend it. 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼

Wow, that looks great. Do some of the settings fix pitch to a chromatic scale? (otherwise it would be interesting to pass it through a pitch-correcter)

Does the USB do anything besides supply power?

BTW the audio level on your video is very low.

Very cool. Seems they go for like $42 in the US from AliExpress. $72 on Amazon.

I played a lot with Bespoke Synth program recently and couldn't resist buying this thing. Basic oscillation have something charming to it. It does sound like a thing to make retro sci-fi soundtracks-alike with, at least via recording samples. The only downside for this price - is in it's low powered antennas leaving you a range too small, making it very difficult to operate with precision. If only it was usb3, it could've been much better. But $35 is very cheap for an instrument, even this derpy. Cool toy. Thank you for the vid because at the start I thought I was doing something wrong, but it is this basic & with changing of modes on * instruments.

Do I see the chosen sound anywhere on the screen or just when it is changed? Can I jump or quick scroll to a certain sound? And sound output is only with the USB or is done with the 3.5mm plug?

Update: My Theremin arrived a few days ago, and tended to cut out when connected to my laptop. I measured the current consumption at 700mA, which is more than a USB 2.0 port can handle. Power from USB 3.0 should be OK; I am using a massive USB battery at the moment.

I saw this thing a while ago and at one point gave it a try but i am pretty let down since the tonal range is really really small and i blame the tiny thin Antennas for it. But so far this is the ONLY cheapo Theremin you can buy that comes with a Volume Antenna, as a theremin SHOULD. The sound selection is pretty neat and really makes this thing even a a very interesting piece of instrument for those who wanna get freaky and experiment.

I've just got one & everything is there _except_ operating instructions! Are they online? Did you get any? It's not too intuitive for the setting page & no explanation for the 4 button usage. Any ideas? Pls comment below if you know where I can get instructions from. Thks.

How well does pitch normalisation work?
