Making Friends with a Baby Lizard

Applesauce is a baby chameleon gecko (Eurydactylodes vieillardi) native to New Caledonia. I’ve been trying to form a bond with him and it has not been plain sailing.

Such a cute gecko, and a very nice video:) Just a few things I noticed, some things you could do to help your gecko feel more secure are:

-More foliage!! In the enclosure, add more leaves, branches, vines. He's a tiny gecko, and open space is scary. Also, covering one or more of the terrarium sides with dark paper may help too!
-Not handling at all in the first week or so. When you gecko is first settling in, not handling at all can help with quicker acclimation into the new environment, and help him be more confident later on.
-dimmer lights. Chameleon geckos are active at night, so dimming the lights when handling can help the gecko be more active and enthusiastic.

I'm a big believer in the idea of hiding ones face when acclimating a lizard. Let them get used to your smell, size, and such first. Eyeballs of a predator and all that.
