Lyrics:
Covered with dust and forgotten,
Like the face upon the wall.
The one souvenir of the days gone by,
I treasure most of all:
(refrain)
There's an old spinning wheel in the parlor,
Spinning dreams of the long, long ago.
Spinning dreams of an old fashioned garden,
And a maid with her old fashioned beau,
Sometimes it seems that I can hear her in the twilight
At the organ softly singing "Old Black Joe."
There's an old spinning wheel in the parlor,
Spinning dreams of the long, long a go.
(verse)
Turn back the years of my childhood
As you turn, old spinning wheel.
Just show me a lane with a barefoot boy,
As shadows softly steal:
(repeat refrain)

I have my Mom's Musical Powder Box with this song on it. My Dad and Mom courted for five years and were married in 1936. I remembered the song title and finally in 2022 found the lyrics. I believe this was the first gift my Dad gave to my Mom. Their favorite song was "Let Me Call You Sweetheart". Yes, I have a modern music box that plays that song. Great Memories

My old Aunt used to go around singing this as she moved about the house. I grew up hearing it.

My favorite person in the world, my great aunt Doris who is 96 years young, told me the story of when she was 8 years old and she took her 4 year old brother around to the different classrooms at the little country school to show him off because she said he was so cute. He would sing this song 🎶

Well... we know one thing, the word “charming”will never be used to describe songs written in the last 50 or 60 years, but “charming “ certainly is what this catchy and popular tune from the early 1930s IS.
