The styles are extremely different. One is a family epic of someone’s unexpected rise to power while the other chronicles the exhilarating life of a gangster with all the ups and downs. They’re so fundamentally different that it’s basically meaningless to compare the two.

I believe Godfather has the better characters, Michael, Vito, Hagen, Sonny, Clemenza, Sollozzo, and probably a few others.

Both are obviously the greatest gangster/mafia movies of all time, but I slightly prefer Goodfellas. It's faster paced compared to Godfather, so it makes it more rewatchable. It has a lot of funny moments, a more realistic depiction of the Mafia, and I think it's the main inspiration and the reason why The Sopranos exists which is one of, if not the best TV series.
