Learn about the Bedford Avenue spectacle on a Sunday in November. So many thanks to Abe K from HasidiminUSA for letting me use his footage. Follow him on instagram!

The people racing against the runners to cross the street I found hilarious

The first year I ran the marathon we passed through the (then) still very Jewish section of Williamsburg. It was very quiet. The grownups did not come out but they sent their children to cheer for us💙

They were seated on the curb & waved as we went by.

Crossing that street reminds me of pedestrians in Vietnam crossing a road full of mopeds. The secret is to keep a steady pace and walk straight so divers can predict and adjust their speed accordingly.

I once witnessed it, it was so fun. There were some Hasidic people holding water and food which some runnners snatched as they ran.

This is another marothon in itself! It is the ultimate test of Hasidic agility trying to cross the street without hitting a runner. I wonder who got an award with the most crossings, 😂😂😂

It's complicated bc the boys have school on Sunday and the buses cant pass. the parents take the boys to school, and one of the biggest schools is right there on bedford avenue, so you see the dads running with the boys to cross...

I loved the way you ended that, because it's true, "It's all so New York City." ❤

I can’t imagine my religion preventing me from watching people run if it said that I would not follow such strict rules

i love that they warn the citizens rather than ask the marathon to reroute or stop all together. not sure if that ever happened in the past but it's cool to see!

The little girl held up her hand up as though she had a stopwatch ❤️. Had to watch it a second time to catch the dashers weaving through the marathoners. What a city! Thanks, Frieda. How would we have known this charming Happening. ❤️🇨🇦

This is my dream marathon, and the reason why I ran my first half marathon this September. I am beyond excited to run NYC when I am old enough!!

One of those last clips of the man trying to cross and holding onto his hat seemed like he was genuinely amused by the plight of battling a street crossing. Others looked justifiably afraid - I sure would be- but that guy gave me a chuckle. 😅 As a midwesterner this is absolutely insane to me that both the runners and the crossers are so dedicated to their end goal, if I was running I’d never make it to the end because I’d feel like I HAD to let the pedestrians in the crosswalk go first. And the amount of “Ope! Excuse me! My bad! Sorry” would completely ruin the Silent Mile vibe 😂😂

I loved watching people running for the race and the Hasidic crossing to get on with the day. It was hectic yet peaceful. How i wish the world was. Vibrant, colorful, different and respectful

All it takes to cause absolute chaos in that area of the marathon is spilling a bag full of coins in the middle of the street.

It's cool and shows just how diverse the city is. That despite their community and beliefs most don't condemn or impose their on the city or country. Just living their best lives and what matters to them.

Maybe they should use the tunnels on that day instead

lol we just needed to cross today with my toddler. Never in my 3+ decades of life have I done it before. Guess I can cross that off my bucket list.

One of the funniest videos I've ever seen was Satmars as froggers (with game music and moves) to get to Shul for prayers during NY Marathon.

You are so classy in how you report on your x community. As a chabadnik, a BT and a runner I deeply appreciate your commentary from the angle of a frum person (an insider) from the angle of a worldly BT (an outsider) and a runner (an insider).
