University of California, San Francisco Kidney Transplant Center takes pride in maintaining close-knit relationships between transplant surgeons and nephrologists, while at the same time fostering physicians’ individual research pursuits, thus allowing each physician to become a truly unique asset to the program as a whole. The sheer size of the program, continued specialization and innovation born of individual research, and the close relationships between surgeons, nephrologists and various specialists, all position UCSF to be a leader in taking on challenging cases (often complicated by comorbidity) - which have often been turned away by other centers of its kind. This collaborative approach extends past the initial time period of transplant and recovery, into the long-term of patients’ lives.
