Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand Fights To End Sexual Assault In the Military

As a stream of recent national headlines and investigative reports continue to expose the military’s failure to combat sexual assault within its ranks, it is clear that we must be doing more to protect our service members and to punish the perpetrators who commit these violent crimes.

Over the past five years, we’ve been fighting to pass a bill called the Military Justice Improvement Act, aimed at bringing more accountability to the system and finally giving our service members the justice they deserve. I visit Arlington National Cemetery. I do not know what inappropriate things they did but I am thankful that they gave their lives for their country. That does not justify sexual assault.
