Hand-Feeding Seagulls

Coroloma, a Sport fishing boat, departs the Anacapa Channel Island after a day of fishing and heads back home to Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard, California.

During the ride back, some of the fresh catch gets cleaned and gutted for filets.

Seagull, a coastal seabird and a carnivore, often scavenges opportunistically: in this case - hanging out over the boat, waiting for the leftover remains.

Gulls display great adaptability and versatility in how they obtain prey: in the air, on water and on land. There are a few brave gulls in this wild flock of swarming birds willing to snatch the food right out of my hand, from the air!

Considering the speed of the moving boat and the wind, the gulls were surprisingly precise and very gentle in obtaining the targeted meat.
