JOHN GOULD. THE SUPREME COLLECTION

Показать описание
A selection of 62 images from the many works published by John Gould during the middle years of the Nineteenth Century.
Gould himself master-minded the publication process and only occasionally actually set to and engraved for himself. He and his wife did, however, make many journeys around the world to sketch subjects for publication. Most of the true artistry arose during the stone lithographic process carried out, in the main, by Henry Constantine Richter. But Gould got (and kept) most of the credit.
Each of these images has been meticulously restored to eliminate all the ravages of time and to correct any production and colouring errors and faults, of which there were many.
