"Love me when I have earned it the least, because then I need it most."

I really like both "let the soul dangle" and the one about "if a person doesn't respect the penny they don't deserve the dollar." That one seems very German and very true! Have you hear the idiom "Throwing good money after bad"? It means to spend more money on something that has already failed, like you refuse to give up on a bad investment instead of walking away from it and lose more money in the process. "If you keep paying to fix that car you already spent a lot on, but it still doesn't work, you'll just be throwing good money after bad."

"May you be reinscribed in the book of life" - Jewish saying. I like it.

... words of wisdom, thank you Ms.Trixie. I would like to add this "More substance than resemblance..." my scout master once said this over a camp fire when I was a young Boy Scout, later in life I found out he got it from an old German documentary. These words have not left me even to this day... Now I can add your words "Those that don't value the cent... does not deserve the dollar"

I'm German too and I looove "Die Seele baumeln lassen". It's almost like a poem. I also really like "Leben und leben lassen" - "Live and let live", cause it conveys such an important message...

Thank you for sharing these great sayings. The first one seems somewhat Buddhist-like, and describes a state of mind that is challenging to achieve, but that can be very liberating. The second saying is equally as meaningful. In the US, we have devised a more crude way of conveying this sentiment - A friend will help you move, but a good friend will help you move...a body. This means that a friend will help you move your belongings to a new house or apartment, but a friend is extraordinary if she/helps you with a very, very tough situation; like moving the body of someone you may have 'terminated, ' accidentally, or otherwise. The German expression is a bit more eloquent. Vielen dank!

I think, "für jemanden eine Lanze brechen" (to break a lance for somebody) is also a very beautiful saying! :) to go in a fight for someone, to help him, to speak up for him... Surely it derives back from medieval times, where knights confronted each other in duels and wanted to impress the princess of the court. This makes the saying even more beautiful. :) It's like a window from which you can gaze into the past, like a relic...:)
Excuse me for my bad school English but I hope, some of you got at least a little portion from what I've written...:S

It could just be me, but it looks like Trixie is almost crying while explaining some of these meanings. Which is sad, but also very beautiful at the same time.

I still think the best German saying is the golden rule to live by: Was Du nicht willst, das man Dir tu, das füg' auch keinem andren zu.

Oh my, that bunny-pillow! Happy Easter! Uuuu~
I would add this lovely saying of: "Die Radieschen von unten wachsen sehen" for someone who dies (especially little animals) (en: "Watching the radish from beneath")

I loved that last one. That was deep. I don't know what it is but your voice and accent always makes me want to sit and let my soul dangle. Soothing.

The only German saying I remember is "Morgen, morgen, nur nicht heute, sagen alle faulen Leute." Tomorrow, tomorrow, not today, all the lazy people say.
