Step 2:get the 30 dollars check

Rebates are given by the actual manufacturer of the product, rather than the retail store, which does their discounts through having sales.

Huh thats a thing?....my ass just goes meh not worth the trouble and they can lie "oh we never got the mail" "we sent you the check already"

We also just generally don't give you the rebate or the people of the company just keep it for themselves because I have mailed in many rebates and only a small fraction have been paid

They also like to put hurdles in your path, e.g.: post office boxes not allowed (not everyone gets their mail delivered).

As someone who used to help customers get their mail in rebates: its a scam. People don't 'forget' about rebates, they just don't want to get scammed.

don't forget that they also make the mail in process as annoying as possible. I remember seeing one mail in rebate where the payout for it took a full year to ever see

This is only some cases. As someone who works in a tech store, yes they are good for getting things out the door and generating more money, but no, it isnt intended as a cheap way to generate more income, even if it has that side effect. Many rebates are run through external organisations such as a local council. Where I live, the city council has a security rebate which helps people to protect themselves with security cameras. The idea with these is to benefit the customer, without hurting the business.

I have that exact microphone. If it was 50, i would be amazed (it's the shure mv7, and it goes for around about £250. It is one under the sm7b)

Hehe, my parents NEVER forgot to do so. While my parents would shop on Black Friday, my brother and I would be creating a list for the rebate. We got 10 almost free pillows. And we got a free coffee machine that I eventually took to college with me

I've mailed in many rebates that I've never seen that done for especially with computer parts

The reason is closer to the fact that it's the manufacturer that is sending you the money, not the store.

For alcohol, it also allows the company to sell below the state allowed minimum which is kind of corrupt. You also need a physical receipt (source: I was a giant eagle employee)
