Dont let online programs deter you from getting your education. Either way you will still get a job as an NP and before you know it you will have experience and there's nothing that will stop you from your practice. if you already work in a hospital and you get your NP they dont care were you got it, its a good pay bump and a good way to grow as a healthcare worker. All the best.

I’ve been told of course you can go straight through to nurse practitioner. Especially when you start later in life

I agree experience is valuable, BUT these standards are only for NP’s, what about PA’s that have the closest scope of practice to NPs, do they work as a nurse before becoming PA’s? No, they don’t event have to touch a patient before PA school.

Are there any good reputable online ACNP programs you recommend?

Well, they’ll be disappointed. I’m starting my NP 6 months out of my RN program. I’ve worked in so many clinical capacities over 25 years that it was just about finally getting the letters behind my name. And…I’m going all online. I’m not torturing myself with professors who bully and berate the way I had to for my RN. Too old for that and I can’t counter any bedside RN experience with the other clinical experience that equals an RN.

Is there any way to avoid surgical procedures as a FNP? Aspiring FNP here but I’m really not a fan of surgery.

Is it true that you HAVE to work in either the ICU or ER for two years before you apply to NP school? If anything id prefer to work in MedSurg but im not sure id i can work in the ICU or ER for now at least

I'm definitely chosing a state school for my BSN. Looks way better on my resume than "Capella" and their 4 months to get a BSN.

There are too many NP diploma mills. The board of nursing needs to end all online NP programs.

Hi! I’m going straight through. I’m also doing a pmhnp. What type of np are you?

Quite frankly, I’m glad employers are being more “choosy” w/ whom they hire. It used to be you had to have at least 4 yrs bedside w/ 1 yr critical care. And the one year of critical care had to be w/in the LAST 3 yrs. Now, if you have the money, they let anyone in. It’s embarrassing to be w/ some of these FNP students at clinical. I won’t see pts w/ them. I hope employers are starting to see the benefit in hiring knowledgeable FNP clinicians who have been practicing at the bedside & are expert bedside RNs (not know it all’s, there’s a difference).

And...owch

Hi. Are you practicing in States? Canada? I’m doing the online NP program.

But I have a question, why can’t a recent FNP graduate start his own primary care clinic with a collaborative MD? Can you please make a video about this
