I would love to know how Paul Henning thought up the family dynamic for the show. Of a widower, his daughter, his mother-in-law, and his nephew. How he knew the chemistry of those 4 character types within a family unit would produce a situation comedy and the story lines down road like it did.

saw "Miss Jane" playing a wife in a western once. it was odd to see her acting kind of normal.

She was the best. Granny and Jed had one of the best in-law relationships on TV. We never heard Jed do any mother-in-law jokes. On a few occasions she even tried to find him another wife. It says a lot that she moved in with him and Ellie May after Rose Ellen died. The show never said anything about her husband or if there were any other children.

It's good that she used her earlier experience to prepare for the part. Minnie Pearl was based on a lady Sarah Ophelia Cannon had met years before. Too bad she never got to appear on the show.
