“Double Eyelashes, Naturally?!” #really

Показать описание
A double eyelash row, a condition known as distichiasis, occurs due to a genetic mutation that causes an additional row of eyelashes to grow along the eyelid. This mutation affects the FOXC2 gene, which plays a crucial role in the development of various tissues during embryonic growth. When this gene is altered, it can lead to the formation of extra hair follicles along the eyelid margin, resulting in a second row of eyelashes.

While having a double row of eyelashes might sound appealing, it can lead to complications. The extra lashes often grow inwards, rubbing against the surface of the eye, which can cause irritation, redness, and even damage to the cornea if left untreated. In some cases, the additional eyelashes may be so fine that they go unnoticed, but in others, they can require medical intervention to prevent discomfort or eye injury.

Distichiasis can be inherited, meaning it runs in families, or it can occur sporadically due to a new mutation. Despite its potential complications, many people with this condition manage it successfully with treatments that may include lubricating eye drops, eyelash removal, or in more severe cases, surgery to correct the abnormal growth.

I have it. My eyelashes are constantly on fleek, but at the cost of me always having to adjust my eyelids to release hairs that get caught. It does get irritated quite easily, and everytime I touch my eyelids, I worry that they'll start to burn or swell.

Some of my eyelashes (on the top row) point down, and those are the culprits that are always up to no good. I just want to pluck them, but I really don't want to pluck my eyeball along with them. 😅

Is this what Elizabeth Taylor had? I read once she had double row eyelashes because of an illness.
And she always had some health issues along her life. 😮

I've got that! Unfortunally, even after surgury nothing got better. I also got chronical infection and an immune disease bc Doctors didn't take it serious for 11 Years. Lots of surgury got done on pseudo level so nothing really changed to the better.
I got scares in my eyes bc of all of that. Not even contact linses help me a lot. I need to pull out my lashes every day. I have always red eyes. I also got swelling on my foot but I did not know that this is related to the eyeproblems. Thank you for the Video!❤

I’m so grateful for this information! I have spent years trying to figure out why I get such bad lymphedema in my legs. Ruling out medications one by one, changing diets, getting sober, but nothing made any noticeable difference. I have also always had incredibly thick lashes that like to grow in at odd angles and occasionally need to be plucked when they decide to grow pointing towards my eye (not fun!). I never would’ve thought to connect the two, but looking at how many of the other symptoms I have, I guess it makes sense! It’s a relief to know!

I have this. No swelling, but I do have very dry and irritated eyes. At times, my own tears feel like they're burning my eyes.

I have double eyelashes and they are driving me insane! I had a bad caustic burn in one eye and since then some eyelashes grow in the wrong direction. I have to pluck them when they get too long. I pray for alopecia everyday. It’s that annoying that I would be happy to be hairless.

wow okay i didn’t realize this was a thing. i have this but i actually have 3 rows of eyelashes, and i’ve always been complimented on my eyes and eyelashes specifically, with people always asking me “do you have eyelash extensions” whenever i wear mascara and i have to tell them “no they’re just naturally like this (long and thick)” and then they’ll tell me i’m “so lucky” or that they’re “jealous.” it makes total sense tho that i have this since i’m naturally ginger (another mutation). lol so i guess i’m just a mutant and a very rare person (i also have ginger hair and blue eye which is the rarest combination in the world.) and it makes sense cause my mum has lymphedema and me and my younger brother were said to be at risk for it when we were born. i’ve never had it nor been diagnosed with it but i have had problems with my lymph nodes swelling in my neck quite a bit before. also i’m always getting eyelashes stuck in my eyes or random itchy/irritated eyes for no reason lol, i also have kinda sensitive eyes when it comes to the elements (wind and sun mostly) it’s annoying but worth it tbh.

I’ve had this and my doctors used to think I had trichotilimania because I pulled my lashes out as a kid and teen because I would have irritation and my eyes constantly felt like there were needles in them….. finally realizing as an adult that other people don’t have lashes like mines I have a few rows of lashes in some places so now what I do is I trim or pluck the lashes in the very corner of my eyes towards my nose because I have hairs there that poke into my eye

You just explained my life. I didn't realize that was abnormal. I knew i was sensitive. Just air can hurts my eyes and contacts were awesome because the air didn't get in for awhile, helping them be tough. Also, eye liner was crazy because when i tried to do that area, eye lashes would stab my eyeball and anything on the inner lash causes a lot of pain and tears and redness. I thought other people were just hurting themselves for some stupid reason, didn't think it might not hurt them...
