Trump's Gamble Could Backfire Big Time

It seems to me that the most likely reason for Trump's tariff policies are to browbeat other countries into rushing into new trade agreements which favour America strongly, in order to get rid of the tariffs quickly. However, if countries face the tariffs down, mitigating the damage, retaliating where possible, and working on closer trade ties with more reliable countries, then this all backfires pretty badly for Trump.

It's 2025, not 1945, when the US was the only country not destroyed by war and could dictate terms to the entire world. This situation will not repeat itself now, the US has no chance of negotiating a better deal for itself, it does not have such an advantage over the rest of the world as it did 80 years ago.

I say this as an American - this is not how I want my nation to act on the world stage, I do not support these policies or actions, it’s madness. I hope that the rest of the world calls Trump’s bluff and negotiates deals that exclude the US as much as possible. The administration is genuinely worried that other nations won’t run to the table with offers because they do not have a backup plan and they are terrified of what will happen domestically if things don’t improve. There’s a lot of very agitated people here with a LOT of firearms and ammunition just sitting around. Call his bluff.

I've seen a number of commentators say Trump was speaking about Tariffs being great back in the 80's. I doubt very much he is now going to change an opinion he has held for 40 years. If these guys believe Trump wont do crazy shit then they really are idiots
