It was also born from Richard Petty having to leave Plymouth racing because Plymouth wouldn't get him the same car Dodge had in the Dodge Daytona. He was being beaten every eeek by the Daytona. So he went to Ford racing, Ford came up with the Talladega Torino and Petty won most of the races. for that one year. Plymouth begged him to come back by delivering the Superbird, and never ignored him again. In 1969-1970 I saw the Superbird being made at a Plymouth factory in Detriot, Michigan.
