Finally Perfect? Adam Audio D3V Desktop Speaker Review Part 2

In my first video about the D3Vs I noted a few small problems, but since then ADAM Audio has released new firmware and fixed pretty much everything. Just a few minor drawbacks remain with these speakers.

I think all smaller powered monitors should have a sub output to add a subwoofer.

This is basically my dream office speaker: Desktop speakers with USB-C input, headphone output and integrated DSP to compensate for my tiny box of an office. I'm glad Adam Audio improved them with an update but I still feel like this is a first generation product that is not perfect.

The included link cable is more than sufficient for the D3Vs. They are ultra near field monitors, and in the various setups that I've used them, they are maximum 120-130cm apart. In my home studio setup, they're around 1m apart. If you require a longer link cable, you're probably using the monitors incorrectly. The included stands work fine on a solid desk, but yes, as one might reasonably expect, they can make an Ikea type desk sing. I use mine with desktop mic stands which I have sand filled. I don, t believe the sand filling makes a difference, but I was brought up in the BS hi-fi world. Basically, stick 'em on a solid meter bridge or mic stands around a metre apart, and they'll perform incredibly well. If ever there were a definition of "sounds per pounds", it's these.

Why don't you just extend the cable yourself instead of waiting for a company to make a longer version and charge you premium? It's very straightforward to just cut, strip, and connect more wire. You can do it yourself!

Folks - passive woofers are good but they are not true to the audio's impulse response (inertia of the material comes into play). A port is more exact in this regard since it takes the impulse response of the midrange woofer and "tunes it down" (Helmholtz tube effect).

if they get a longer cable i'ma jump on them and use them with a network streamer, that actually has a sub out and a switch, so i get sub with crossover when active, and full range sattelites when sub is off for later in the evening :)
