Synopsis:

In an analytical essay titled ‘A moment of friction’ political scientist Dr Paul Buchanan wrote how we are living within a decisive moment of world affairs.

A decisive moment of transition for the world’s contrasting and conflicting powers, where, as Paul has written; “… because it is the period where force has become the major arbiter of who rises and who falls in the systemic transitional shuffle.”

So today, the first episode of A View from Afar, Series 5, Paul and I will focus on this writing, and take a journey through this example of strategic study that will help us to place a context to the world, as we are currently experiencing it.

Was a treat to catch the livestream yesterday. I'd been checking the channel regularly hoping for a new discussion between the two of you!

Thanks guys. Good to see you again. Wide-ranging and good points made - always learn something .eg Israeli business interests in NZ, the difference between left- and right-wing protesters (humanitarian v self-interest) ... personally I don't think the Global South will have as much clout in world affairs as you suggest - to me, the cultures are too different ... and I also don't have much hope for our current NZ govt exercising much independent foreign policy, they do not have the nous, nor the balls ... Look forward to the next broadcast, cheers for now 🙂

i find this a little weird as a discussion. NZ has very little influence on Israel, and all this discussion of the global south. The UN Security Council will never change as the large players there will never give up their power. This conversation is talking about a perfect world that just would never exist. Kiwi's as a whole have no idea about the history of the middle east and would be hard pressed to comment.
