Periprosthetic Joint Infection (PJI) is one of the most devastating complications in orthopedic surgery. Two crucial issues regarding PJI is to have a practical widely accepted definition that can be used in research to improve the quality of the orthopedic literature. We need a definition that dramatically improved diagnostic confidence and facilitated treatment of this complication.

Furthermore, Numerous definitions of success and failure of treatment of PJI have been reported. So standardization of definition of success and outcomes following treatment also would be beneficial with the objective that a standard guideline can be achieved to better report homogeneous results of the different treatments of periprosthetic infection.
