Thanks Matt! Sorry to see the damage, but very happy that you share with us the dirt and grit of real life shooting! It ain't for whimps! :) You gave me advice, which I'm sure you won't remember, on sending my D810 in for servicing when it displayed the ERR code (shutter seems to be the best online answer & to send it in for servicing). I did so, but oddly it arrived not displaying any error! (But I did get a nice serving and sensor clean, immediately prior to shooting the total solar eclipse, so that was nice.) I have to assume the knocking and banging of shipping freed the shutter or whatever was hung up. Now I DID IT AGAIN, this time to a D750. I *think* it is happening when I shut the camera off whilst live streaming, and the shutter locks up ("ERR" displays on the top). I *almost* did it to my other D810 last week, killing the power, before properly shutting off the Live View, and properly turning the camera off. Gots to be more careful! :) Don't rush about! Breath. Relax... heheh.... Anyway, thanks for all your practical advice Matt. I do appreciate it

Aircraft mechanics use "speed tape", to fix commercial jets!! Don't feel bad.

Actually, Matt was surprisingly calm. I'm fortunate to be on the van with him in Iceland.

These new cameras are definitely more fragile than the older D series. I dropped my D4 from over 10 feet down the side of a small cliff and no damage, if that was my Z8 then it would have been catastrophic.

Sorry Matt. It happens and you adapted and overcame. Shots are beautiful. I am leaving for Alaska in 2 days. Will be thinking of you as I get into cold weather and hopefully some wildlife. Cheers.

Thank you for the video Matt😊
All around the camera SmallRig cage is perfect to protect your Z9 from such cases😊
I'm always buying it, every time I upgrade my camera ( it was for Z7, Z7II, after Z8 and Z9). I made it as a habit, like a lens filter, but for the body... All of my cages after I was selling old cameras did an amazing job, as all dents, scratches were on them and not on the cameras😊 100-200usd accessory to protect 3k-4k usd camera 😉👍

There's a reason I've never considered trading my old camera bodies in - they show too much wear and tear from actual use. Anyone who sees your Z9s, even if they don't know who you are, is going to think "that guy's serious, look at the scars." Glad you're able to keep shooting, beautiful shots of the puffins.

Sad to see that you broke a part of it, but good to see that you share it with us. That shows that it can happen even to the best, and not only me heheheheh. By the way, the photos was stunning.

I'm curious how the tape holds up. Curious if it will be an issue when it's hot. Gorilla tape gets looser when it's hot it seems. I hope it works well for you. Seems like you did a great job taping it.
But make sure to not get adhesive residue inside, so when you swap tape, use a rag with isopropyl alcohol to wipe it off externally first, if any got in the gaps wipe it off.
I had to use tape too, but not on the camera it self, but the Peak Design Clutch hand strap, as it always wanted to go out of place, so I put tape there to stop it from doing that, so I can just put my hand in there and the camera is secure, instead of aligning it then putting hand in. Annoying design flaw, but they might have their reasons, but for me it's just an annoyance. I used Gorilla tape, but it eventually gets pushed away. So have to replace it from time to time.

damn, what a bummer Matt to have a damaged camera during your trip, 🤞🤞 the "till I get home" repair lats the distance.
Great shots on the puffins BTW

Well you are ok, so that’s what’s important.

I have a Z7ii and think the card door very flimsy. It often opens just by my reaching into the camera bag and taking out the camera and sometimes has flipped open just in the bag and I worry that I will pull thr camera out with the door open and it will catch and break off. Not impressed by Nikon's design/build in this simple matter.

Ahhhh, Matt, you are almost as destructive as Frank Spencer. Lol.

You should have a museum of every gear you broke so far :)
I seem to have a curse with 24-70 lenses, 2 fell already, Sigma L mount and the Nikon one, but both still work, the panasonic was repaired.
Just recently the 85 1.8 joined the fray too, but so far very light scuff pheww lol

That nikon breaker guy.

A collection of Nikon gear you have broken over the years would make a pretty decent pro set up I think. What's that now? Two z9s, multiple 24-70s pf various generations. Was there a d4 or d5 as well? No doubt some other lenses.
I don't envy your probable insurance premium... Haha

Hey Matt, the first copy of my Z9 had the sensor shield fail after 1 month. I haven't seen too many others with this problem, but I'm starting to wonder now...
