We're joined by top UK Sax Pro Simon Bates to check out the ever popular Yamaha YSS-475II Soprano Saxophone.

The YSS-475II Soprano Sax delivers professional qualities at an intermediate price. Much of its design is based upon the more expensive Pro and Custom saxes, and it shares many of the same features. The 475 offers outstanding response, tone, and intonation, as well as a comfortable playability.

Many saxophonists moving from alto or tenor saxophone can sometimes find the soprano sax harder to play. The 4C mouthpiece supplied with the YSS-475II makes the instrument very free blowing whilst the lightweight body makes it easy to hold. The body is designed to give maximum response and good intonation whilst giving the player optimum tone quality.

Simon is AMAZING! I WISH I could have a teacher who was half as good as he is!

This guy is a fantastic musician and the both of them are very intelligent. As far as the horn goes, I love the fact that it is ONE PIECE. Yamaha action and tuning is very good as well.

I am a flute player, but I want to try the sax. I am still unsure of whether I should play the alto or the Soprano, though I am leaning towards the soprano. Would it be very difficult to start with that as opposed to the alto?

Some youngsters chose this as their first instrument. However it is harder than the alto, particularly the high notes.

Is this a pro instrument? I’m looking to buy a professional soprano sax.
