How to use Custom Building Products tile and grout sealer

As Part 3 of our three-step video guide on How to Install Tile, we explain how to choose the best CUSTOM grout sealer for your particular tile installation and also walk you through the steps on how to apply your tile sealer.

Applying one of our tile sealing products is an important step in the care and maintenance of your tile. Grout sealers help protect your tile from everyday spills and stains as well as the effects of weather or water.

You can apply a Custom Building Products tile grout sealer at three different points in your installation: once you’ve prepared your surface and applied your mortar; once you’ve set your tile; and once you’ve added your grout.

[Note: Always be sure to test your CUSTOM grout sealer first on a small area and wear protective, impervious gloves.]

If you apply your mortar after preparing your surface for tiling, adhere to the instructions on the mortar as many need at least 24 hours to cure before you apply a grout sealant. If you add your grout sealant after you’ve set your tile but before you’ve applied your grout, this will help the grout clean-up process. A tile grout sealer also helps protect cement grout joints from staining. If you use your grout sealer after grouting, be aware that most cementitious grouts need three days to cure.
