The sensitive period for language is one of the earliest sensitive periods the child experiences🌺
The child acquires the spoken language during the first year of life and learns to speak naturally, effortlessly and with ease🌺

Between 12 -17 months children understand names of family members, they turn when called, they often attempt new words, use gestures or sounds instead of crying for what they want, understand names of body parts...🌺

Between 18 - 24 months children understand and can identify pictures of familiar objects when they are named, they sing and replace gestures with words...🌺

Adults should introduce them to action songs and finger play songs, rhymes and jingles, Montessori games, group activities/projects (that involves taking), l spy games...🌺

Adults should read to them as it would help them develop an understanding of how language is used in stories🌺

GOOD ILLUSTRATIONS also help children understand what books are all about. Colourful pictures are what attract children to books🌺

Happy viewing 🙂

It’s a very important topic that you have done. I think it’s important as parents(and adults) to value the words of children when they speak, and not to be dismissive about their thoughts expressed, well done👏🏽
