As an older person who still travels a lot, your suggested reasons for taking flights with connections are the exact reasons I prefer flights with connections. And, oftentimes I don’t have a choice - thank you for always giving us great useful information.

Direct flights are longer but it’s definitely better for me. You sit down, arrive, and that’s it. No more stress, nothing more to do. Idk

It can also sometimes let you gain more tier points depending on routing and fare class!

Please talk about the complications and complexities of connecting flights too...How much time needed for connecting differ from each airport, do you need to clear immigration before checking in again, and the biggest headache of connecting flights lost or delayed luggages

bro, you're talking directly to me. I started valuing connecting flights(sometimes)lo, when I had a flight from Frankfurt to San Fran that bored me to hell, I was like never again such a long flight w/o a connection break. I am going to Greece next month and I was looking at Turkish, I remember their great food.

I recently found that traveling from Montreal to Quito was more expensive than traveling between Montreal and Cancun and from Cancun and Quito passing through Panama. There are more people from Montreal and Quito trying to visit Cancun than to the other city. Then I took the flight with the longest layover in Panama, which even costs slightly lower than the shortest layover one. Interestingly, a layover of a day would have cost me almost the double of that flight.

Well, for me i might be the only weirdo. I can't stand connection flights, as it would increase my anxiety. I will always rather get on one plane to get to my destination.

Not to mention you can earn more SQS with airlines like Air Canada in their Aeroplan program!

You should have said you have to check in you luggage if the airlines are not in partnership and then go through again etc

Do you need a visa on a layover to visit a city for the day?

24 hour connection/layover rule is only for international connections... for domestic flights, it's generally 4 hours maximum layover. If you listed one negative of connections/layovers, it might be that the odds of SOMETHING going wrong go up about TEN FOLD... delayed flight, missed connection, lost baggage, downgrade, denied boarding, overbooking, fatigue, loss of time, more exposure to Covid, and on and on. It's not 2018 anymore.

Would anyone recommend me to explore the city with a 5hr layover?

Yes, but you forgot or tricked us to mention about Transit Visa..That will ruin everything...
