V-Moto's Ducati 996 Engined ST2 Custom Cafe Racer

Thinking he had an almost finished custom Ducati ST2 in need of only a few tweaks and 'fettling', Nev took his bike to Viv Cowley at V-Moto with a three week turnaround slot ahead of the 2017 Malle Great Mile.
It was only when they took a deeper look at the bike that the scale of the work needed to be done was realised.

The light work that was originally intended soon turned into a whole rebuild and motor swap that we're glad happened because it spawned one of the nicest Ducati builds we've seen, so much so it was displayed at our Bike Shed London show.

From creating a new subframe, exhaust system, headlight fabrication and much more, all incorporating Viv's ingenuity, design, attention to detail and 200+ hours of hard graft, all in a 3 week time frame.

Now, this one's a long one (don't say we don't treat ya) so flick the kettle on get comfortable and enjoy the build process and story of how this build really came to life.

What a fantastic build! I love Ducati and especially the sound of the old bikes with the dry clutch. I would love do to a build with an old 900 SS, but unfortunatly, in Norway we are not allowed to modify the frame, so you can't make the back part of the bike look nice.

Making the ST4 into a cafe racer is a difficult job. These guys have identified the problems and solved them better than anyone else on the web IMHO. It can be done well on less of a budget than has been spent here. But starting with a 999 or an S4 makes life a lot easier.
