I actually have the Great Hoodlum survival Knife. Got it decades ago. Still have it to this very day and to be onset I have never used it. It’s by all standards it’s still relatively new maybe lightly used test it on paper but that’s it not a scratch on it.

You know it's a beast when it makes them peace maker look small. A very cool design definitely seems to be a great camp knife. Great review 👍

I'll grab my mora if I'm going to be doing yardwork or something. Have a new nessmuk coming for trips to the woods. So no I guess I don't really "edc" a fixed blade but I'd like to get into it. Thanks Dirk!

Some people think it's odd that I like to carry 4" folders.Fixed blades are nice but they just wouldn't work for me.I kind of wish I lived in the country where they would be more acceptable

When you showed the "Peacemaker". I wouldve named it, "The Guillotine" or "The Executioner".
The Buck is nice. Ill agree though, with the notch on the blade. Being a stress riser.

The notch in the blade has a controversial past. The notch is a weakness in design, but Mrs. Ron Hood has refused to change it because it was the last design Ron made before his death. So people have been snapping their blades ever since. Had Ron lived, I think he would have changed the design as soon as people began having problems; however, he didn't live long enough and his wife has been...well, stubborn. Ron designed it, Buck produced it, and that settles it. Still, it's a decent knife with a good steel. It would have been better without the notch or they could have added a hump and put the notch there. Or they could have called it the “Hood Broken Sword.”

On the other hand, I never use a knife in such a way (like batoning it) that would break, or damage, it. Some people do, though 5160 steel is great for cutting, but it also tends to be a bit brittle if you push it.

I would not trust my life on it due to the notch in the blade, I would constantly go and wonder if it might crack. There are many similar knives without the notch that I will rely on, Tops, Kabar, Condor, Bark River, etc. Thanks anyway

I have seen alot of negative reviews about this blade. According to them the weak point is not the notch, but either the heat treatment and/or overheating during gringing the primary grind... there must be some really bad batches out there, I mean the steel should be tough as nails from its composition...

Hey there, as much as I really enjoy your content, I will be leaving YouTube. Sure I’m just one guy, but I hope others including yourself will make a stand against the totalitarianism and censorship we are now seeing from big tech. I hope have success but sincerely hope to see your channel elsewhere, gab.tv or bitchute etc.
