Although Singapore has witnessed record-breaking heat this year – with temperatures not seen for 40 years – its residents have suffered little from it, since the southeast Asian city has adapted successfully to global warming. The city-state champions natural ventilation, tree-lined streets and more energy-efficient buildings. This policy is supported at the highest levels of government, making Singapore the greenest metropolis in the world and a laboratory for the city of the future. Our correspondent reports.

To all those complaining about the cost of car ownership in Singapore. That’s the entire point, they don’t want you to own a car and you have literally no reason to own a car either. Singapore has one of the best public transport system in the world. It is completely accessible for people with disabilities and goes to basically everywhere on the island.

Singapore is truly amazing. It is really a green city with parks all around the island. Singapore actually has the highest ratio of land to green space in any city in the world! over 400 parks and 4 major nature reserves

FYI. In Singapore, you are not allow to chop trees, pluck any plants, leaves, flowers or any fruits grown any where.. Or else you will go jail and fine heavy..even the trees grow near your house, you are not allow to chop down. You may see fruits on the trees eg. Mangoes but no one dare to pluck.. every where got camera ha ha..

Only National Park can cut trees, plants, pluck the fruits etc.. So anyone come to Singapore, please take note.

Our Singapore Government protect these trees especially the oldest trees, rare species etc.. you will get super heavy fine for chopping these kinds..

Government spent a lot of money and manpower to take care these trees, plants, flowers.

One issue that your reporter did not mention was how Singapore wants to restrict car ownership to reduce pollution etc. Cost is GBP 88, 000 just for the right to own a car ... cost of the car is *not* included.

Erm, garden city is the old name. It's been changed to city in a garden or a city in nature. Because the green footprint is now greater than 50%.

The Singapore National Parks Board is also a flagship user of the greehill Smart Tree Inventories! (they are actually the initial customer thus they have their own internal customized and integrated system) 😊

FYI, Singapore has only 5.5 million people living in it and only 3.5 million can be considered Singaporeans. The rest are foreign residents and foreign workers.

The reporter said “..along with 6 millions singaporeans”😂..Singapore is not like any typical country where only citizens live in the country, haha..In fact out of 6 millions population, half are foreigners from all over the world including large community of French cos Singapore is super globalised. So that means only 3 millions are citizens which comprises 4 main races & others. ❤

And yet, despite many trees than human population in Singapore, the average weather temperature averaging between 33 to 39 degrees Celcius and sweltering humid air, make the actual temperature even higher. Even in the evening, the warm temperature can still be felt making air conditioner service business flourish like there’s no tomorrow. 10 minutes walking outdoor in the hot afternoon sun is enough to make one experience FREE “sauna”.
Shout out to scientists to create innovative solution to “import” snow and cold weather from the Antarctic to Singapore 😂

Seems like some of you are dead against what is reported, and some, maybe unsure of what is reported as truth. There are tonnes of this kind of things on SG.

There is even a program on CNA regarding air-condition situation, temperature in the central urban area vs the rure area of SG even the cemetery last year.
in the past, we cut down many more trees, but I am supportive of SG gov is doing.
FYI, it is a rule now, how much you build, how much vegetation you removed, you must put some certain amount, can't recall how much, but you will find this happening in some of the newest building in the business district area.

Even my company of 1600 people, we had started embarking on sustainability drive and 1st step is to measure the amount of CO2 we emits.... the rest of the detail I am not sure, but I was in the 1st meeting. we no longer takes about greeny, we are moving at higher level.

We're still a at the mercy of fires burning in forests in neighbouring countries which is beyond our control. Air quality has declined in the past few days, with particulate matter (PM2.5) rising past 50 into the unhealthy range and potentially climbing past 100.

What are you talking about?
The area around where we live has progressively lost open space and trees, and has become increasingly surrounded by higher and higher buildings.
Draping a few downtown buildings with vines doesn't make up for that.
