Belle is inspired by the true story of Dido Elizebeth Belle (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), the illegitimate mixed race daughter of a Royal Navy Admiral. Raised by her aristocratic great-uncle Lord Mansfield (Tom Wilkinson) and his wife (Emily Watson), Belle's lineage affords her certain privileges, yet the color of her skin prevents her from fully participating in the traditions of her social standing. Left to wonder if she will ever find love, Belle falls for an idealistic young vicar's son bent on change who, with her help, shapes Lord Mansfield's role as Lord Chief Justice to end slavery in England.

I absolutely cannot wait. This movie will be beautiful and being a girl of mixed races having written a fanfiction with Gugu Mbatha-Raw, I just know i'll adore her acting.

Well I have a simple solution for you. Don't see it. I'm going to see it because I love to learn about history and love watching historical drama. For one this isn't all about slavery. t's a black girl raised as an aristocrat, it's bloody fascinating. We never get to see or hear about this kind of story. This is a more positive story about that time. It's great that someone finally made it.

This was okay movie, it was truly Gugu that kept me watching it, she is soo seriously attractive, she wears little-to no make up in this and shes just stunning to look at. So disappointed she wasnt cast in episode 8 :(

I can't be sure about the love story, but Dido was a real mixed race woman who was cared for by her family white- on her fathers side. They lived in Mansfield. I studied her very briefly two years ago.

And actually we all don't know what happened in those days. A lot of schools don't teach it or sugar coat it. Don't assume everyone knows what you know, or rather claim to know. Also I can argue that we can't make movies about the future because we don't know what the future will be like. We should only make movies in the present. Which still can feature racism, since you know, it still exists.
